I can see how those big stones would finish someone off quickly.
So many great paintings of happenings long ago. Photography ruined that.
Not much imagining with photos. Interesting that God wanted the Gospels era to occur without photographic documentation.
Well done, Dan. Tapestries, illuminated manuscripts, paintings, bas-reliefs, intricate wood carving, excellent.
In #113 by Mariotto di Nardo, we see the body of St. Stephen transferred to Rome from Constantinople, by decree of Emperor Diogenes. He was buried in a joint grave with the remains of St. Lawrence.
I’ll bet there’s a story there—starting with how they identified the location of Stephen’s original burial site.
From what I have read, bones relocated from eastern lands had to be boiled for health reasons. Then the relics could be distributed among various churches.
According to the article linked below: “Tradition claims that the tomb of St Stephen was miraculously discovered in Jerusalem in 415 AD through a special revelation given to a priest named Lucian.”
Nobody really knows what the truth is, the Churches make claims and the faithful come and venerate....

"At some point relics of St Stephen were purportedly transferredLOL! Let's start a new movement: "REUNITE STEPHEN WITH HIMSELF!"
westward to Europe. They are now found in many different cities."
Seriously, if any martyr's remains were going to be preserved by God and revealed centuries later, it seems as though it would be Stephen, whose martyrdom is related in such detail in Scripture.
Good Morning Dan, and good morning to all.
Greatly enjoy such variety of artworks. Thank you Dan, for so many expressions of this epic story.
Three days and 120 images should be enough to tell a story worth telling thoroughly.
Well done
and peacefully concluded with the burial of Stephen by Godly men
the respite will be short lived as it is followed by 2000 years of Christian persecution
but as in the movie Quo Vadis, when the Christians are being torn apart by lions, the martyrs begun singing hymns
the hymns drove Nero absolutely mad
if we are ever in the same situation, we should sing hymns
loud and bold with all our hearts
sing to the God of our salvation
blessings to you
Eloquently put, SisterK. I shall heed your excellent advice.
